Islam

Acts 15:7(KJV)

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

If you follow this series and know how I do things, you’ll probably see this title and try to get a couple hundred miles away from me when the nuke goes off. Heck, I flat-out called Catholicism a false religion. What am I going to say about Islam??

But actually this post will be a little different. I’m actually going to defend Muslims.

While I am a Christian with all of my heart, I’m also a seeker of truth (which is what lead me to Christ). If you look at my early blog posts from years ago, long before I started this series, you’ll realize I love researching random things. I tend to look stuff up for myself before I believe it. If I see a post on Facebook making some claim (celebrity death, some overly simple cure for diabetes, etc) I look it up before sharing.

So naturally, when everyone started calling Muslims terrorists and saying the Quran says to kill non-Muslims, I researched it for myself. And I was shocked at what I found. Islam is similar to Christianity in at least one way.

Terrorists have taken the Quran and deliberately mistranslated it to make it fit their agenda. When the media wants to paint Islam in a bad light, they read the mistranslated version.

“But it says to kill infidels!” you’re probably saying. It says to kill idolaters.

The Old Testament has a similar law. Our God is a jealous God. The first Commandment is to not have any gods other than Him. So is it really all that surprising that in the time before forgiveness was possible that idolaters were to be killed? Now we can be forgiven, thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice.

Islam, believe it or not, is a religion of peace. I’m friends with some of them, and they’re some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. The problem is that extremists come in and want things their way, so they twist the Quran to say something it doesn’t.

I think it might help to have Christian examples. The Ku Klux Klan is a group of white supremists who use the Bible to further their agenda. They claim to be Christians, but they are a terrorist group.

You might look at the Klan and go, “What?? They’re not Christians!! They’re spreading hate and violence!!” Now you understand how real Muslims view ISIS, al Qaeda, and the Taliban.

Now you’re probably why I’m defending Muslims in a Christian blog. It goes back to the opening verse.

Acts 15:7(KJV)

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

I would absolutely love it if everyone became a Christian. Including my Islamic friends. But Christianity is a choice. We’re not called to convert anyone, we’re called to just spread the Word of God. If someone decides to believe upon hearing, that’s awesome! But if you tell them about Jesus and they don’t accept Him as the Son of God, that’s not on you.

So if people decide to be Muslim, do not judge them. We’re called to love everyone. Hating Muslims because they’re Muslim makes you no better than what you claim they are. I’m always hearing people say, “We need to kill all the Muslims”. Why? Because they kill non-Muslims? If you don’t see the irony in that, that’s just sad…

The Truth About Christmas (Part 4)

Matthew 2:11(KJV)

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

What was it that the unknown number of wise men brought Baby Jesus? Seems a bit random, if you ask me. What would a baby do with gold? And what on Earth are those other two things? If I didn’t know better, I’d think there some kind of symbolism there.

You know where this is going.

Genesis 24:30(KJV)

30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.

It’s traditional to give gold in some form when you become engaged. In modern times, it’s now usually a diamond ring, but in the past the groom-to-be would give his bride-to-be a gold ring or bracelet. When Rebekah’s brother saw the gold earring and bracelets, he knew she was engaged to be married.

What about frankincense and myrrh?

Song of Solomon 1:13(KJV)

13 A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

It’s a little known tradition that frankincense and myrrh are used in weddings, especially in olden times. The groom-to-be would smell of it, and everyone would know he’s engaged.

But what do these have to do with Baby Jesus?

Ephesians 5:25(KJV)

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

The Church is the Bride of Christ. So what now looks like inappropriate gifts for a baby turns out to actually be symbolic.

The Truth About Christmas (Part 3)

Exodus 20:3(KJV)

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This will shock most people who read this, because usually when I tell people this I’m called crazy or told I’m taking things too far, but I don’t see any other way to describe it; Santa Claus is a false god.

I don’t have any links to attach here to back it up, but seriously stop and think about it.

“He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He knows when you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake”

So Santa is all seeing, all knowing. Be good to please Santa. He’ll reward you for pleasing him. In recent years I’ve actually seen people praying to Santa. Amelia Pond did in an episode of Doctor Who. That’s how she’s introduced!

If Christmas is about Jesus, why are there so many carols praising Santa, saying he’s coming soon?

The idea of Santa is a very dangerous one. Not only because he’s a false idol, but also because your kids will eventually find out Santa Claus is a lie. So when you start telling them about the oddly similar Jesus, why should they believe you this time? It could just be another myth, like Santa.

2 Corinthians 4:4(KJV)

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

So let me ask you something; Do you believe in Santa, or do you believe in Jesus?

The Truth About Christmas (Part 2)

Matthew 2:1-2 (KJV)

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

The wise men mentioned in the above verses are what are traditionally referred to as “the three wise men”. You see them every year at Christmas as a part of the Nativity scene. There’s only one problem; They weren’t there.

“What do you mean!?” you’re probably asking. “Of course they were! They brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh!!”

Yes they did. Two years later.

Matthew 2:16 (KJV)

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

Matthew 2:11(KJV)

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

Jesus was no longer in a manger. Mary and Joseph had found a house in Bethlehem, and that’s where the wise men came to worship him.

Also, it never says there was three wise men. There was only three gifts, so people assumed there were three wise men. But there could have been twenty for all we know.

The Truth About Christmas (Part 1)

Genesis 10:8-9 (KJV)

And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.

Wait, who is Nimrod and why is he the introduction verse on a post about Christmas? Don’t you know that Christmas is all about Jesus??

No it’s not.

Unfortunately, I’ve already shared everything the Bible says about Nimrod. But lucky for us, it’s possible to study the Bible outside of the Bible.

There are countless records documenting the life of Nimrod.

For starters, Nimrod was born on 25 December. His mother/wife told everyone that he was a god, and had everyone worship him. Even having them decorate trees and worship them in honour of him. Also, check this out…

Jeremiah 10:2-5 (KJV)

Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

…did the Bible just tell us it’s a sin to have Christmas trees? I mean, that’s pretty clear right there.

Pretty clear that it’s talking about worshiping the Christmas tree. Pagans were using the trees as idols. That’s clearly a sin. Are we worshiping Christmas trees by decorating them? No.

So while the origin of Christmas is pagan, celebrating it is not a sin. If you’re doing it the traditional way. Modern Christmas is about Jesus Christ, the real and only Saviour. Focusing on Jesus is always a good thing. So taking something that satan intended to pervert souls and using it to tell people about Jesus is always encouraged. You can take a non-Christian song, change some of the words, and make it a Christian song. This is the same thing. Took a non-Christian holiday, changed a few of the words, and made it Christian.

Pre-Trib Rapture

1 Thessalonians 4:17(KJV)

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The Rapture is one of the most dismissed aspect of the Bible. Simply because the word “Rapture” is not in there. But it’s clearly described, like in the above verse. Those who believe in the Rapture are often torn between whether it will be before the Tribulation (Pre-Trib), during the Tribulation (Mid-Trib), or after the Tribulation (Post-Trib). I believe in Pre-Trib, and here is why.

It all comes down to understanding the personality of God. Because He clearly has a personality. If you look at the Bible in context, you’ll find that Pre-Trib only makes sense.

Genesis 6:12-14(KJV)

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

Did God destroy the world, then rescue those who were faithful to Him? No, he saved the faithful before the Flood.

Genesis 19:29(KJV)

29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

When God destroyed Sodom, He made sure Lot and his family escaped first.

Joshua 6:23-25(KJV)

23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel. 24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Rahab and her family was spared from the destruction of Jericho because she helped the Israelites.

So, following this line of thinking, seeing a clear sign of God’s personality to get those faithful to Him out before things get very bad, it’s logical to see that it is going to be a Pre-Trib Rapture. Also there’s this verse, which tells us it will be.

Revelation 3:10(KJV)

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Faith

Hebrews 11:1(KJV)

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

I always hear people asking, “How can you have faith in something you can’t even see?”. Well, the above verse shows that the very definition of “faith” is that you believe without seeing. I have faith that Thomas Jefferson existed even though I have never seen him and no pictures exist of him. You could argue that proof of his existence is in Philadelphia, but I’d respond by saying that proof of God’s existence is everywhere.

Hebrews 11 is all about what faith is and how important is is.

Spiritual Warfare

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

It’s a well-known fact that satan tries to turn everyone away from God. If you’re an angry, bitter atheist, he’s not too concerned about you. He owns you already. But if you’re standing next to Jesus, satan will do everything in his power to make sure you don’t stand there very long. But his power isn’t very strong. Check this out:

Job 1:6-12 (KJV)

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. 12 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.

God had to give satan permission to be able to even touch Job. Throughout all of his trials, which were very severe, Job never lost faith as satan thought he would. And because of that Job was greatly rewarded.

I’ve always loved this verse:

1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

You will go through trials, but God will always provide a means of escape. I know from experience that sometimes it can feel that that verse is a lie. The weight of the world is on your shoulders and you’re struggling to even exist. But if you don’t lose your faith, you will find the escape that God planned for you. I’m not talking about suicide. Do not misunderstand my words. If you look, there’s always a way out of every situation.

Revelation 12:12 (KJV)

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

That shows that satan knows he’s not going to win this war, so he’ll do anything to take as many people down with him as he can, like a kamikaze. God will win in the end, so don’t let yourself be dragged down by the side that’s going to lose.

“The Apostle Paul Was A Deceiver!”

The Apostle Paul Was A Deceiver!” is what made me want to do this series. It’s so easy to disprove that I was actually laughing while scrolling down the page. It was written by Sherry Shriner.

For starters, she presents a list of “truths” that “prove” that Paul was a deceiver. These include:

“Paul was Satan in the Flesh” (no verse to back it up)

“Paul’s account of his Damascus Road Experience changed every time he told it, thus the disciples knew he was lying.” (no verse to back it up)

“Paul declared  he himself was the son of God” (no verse to back it up)

“Paul taught the exact Opposite of what Jesus and His real disciples did.” (no verse to back it up)

“Paul worked to destroy and undo everything Jesus and His disciples did and were doing.” (no verse to back it up, and is pretty much the previous one reworded)

“Paul condemned Jesus and His disciples for false teachings, he condemned Jesus Himself for having long hair in 1 Corinthians 11:14” (Jesus doesn’t have long hair)

“Paul said God’s law was a Curse. Jesus said it was a blessing. Who’s lying?” (no verse to back it up)

“Paul claimed he himself was the son of God” (again, repeating herself, and still no verse to back this one up)

“Jesus Said: Keep the Sabbath (Mark 2:27), circumcise male children (Luke 2:21), Paul Said: Circumcision is not necessary (Romans 2:26) that is going against what the Christ said in Luke 2:21.”

Mark 2:27 (KJV)

27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

If you read the context, Jesus is angering the priests for performing miracles on the Sabbath.

But she said Jesus says that you have to be circumcised. Let’s go read what Jesus said on the matter, using only the verse she gave.

Luke 2:21 (KJV)

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Oh, well there it is. He totally said……nothing, because He was a baby. He had it happen Him. That’s not Him commanding us to be circumcised. Jesus was a Jew, and it was their custom to circumcise. He was also crucified. Does that mean He told us to go be crucified? You can’t even take that verse out of context. She says twice in the same line that “Jesus said it”, but it clearly says He was circumcised.

“In 1 Corinthians 15:1 Paul says that he was not giving them anything but what “he preached.” He explained this even further in the second book (or letter) to the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 11:17). It reads – “That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.” He’s telling you plain and simple he was speaking of himself and not from or of the Lord!”

Now this is where she nearly got me. I read those verses and they do say what she says it says. I even read the whole chapter and he constantly calls himself a fool and that he’s boasting. Paul even goes on to say:

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

I saw that and went, “Whoa! Is Paul calling Jesus corrupt!?”

But you need to look at the bigger context. Which she never bothered to do.

The next thing she says is:

Jesus: “DO NOT CALL ANYONE ON EARTH YOUR FATHER; for ONE IS YOUR FATHER, HE who is in heaven”
(Matthew 23:9)

The devil ‘PAUL’ BLASPEMOUSLY BOASTED

“For I BECAME YOUR FATHER”
(1 Corinthians 4:15)

I’m guessing she didn’t think anyone would check on that. This is what that verse ACTUALLY says:

1 Corinthians 4:15 (KJV)

15 For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Where does it say “for I am your father”? That “begotten” thing? Let’s look at the previous verse:

1 Corinthians 4:14 (KJV)

14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.

Why, that looks like he’s speaking metaphorically.

The next thing she does is take three verses out of context, literally splicing them together to make a new sentence.

“I (‘PAUL’) testify to the gospel of the grace of god…ANOTHER GOSPEL…ALL THINGS ARE LAWFUL “
(Acts 20:24. 2 Corinthians 11:4. 1 Corinthians 10:23)

Acts 20:24 (KJV)

24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

2 Corinthians 11:4 (KJV)

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

 1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV)

23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

For that last one, you need, again, context.

After that point, the rest of the page is just a random collection of spliced verses (like “SAUL who is ALSO called ‘PAUL’.” Acts 13:9), and SCREEN-FILLING LARGE FONT LETTERS. The line “THE COMING OF “THE END…THE ABOMINATION WHICH MAKES DESOLATE ” **PROPHESIED BY DANIEL**” Took up my whole screen.

False Teacher

From what I could make out, she was trying to prove that Paul was the antichrist because the antichrist will desecrate the Temple in Jerusalem, and the temple is gone now (even though she even points out that this will happen in the last days).

On her list of “truths”, she pointed out, “Paul was never recognized as an apostle by the Disciples OR Jesus”. That is simply not true. Jesus appeared to Paul (then called Saul), and told him to go into the city to be given instructions, and Paul was called to be God’s vessel.

Acts 9:15-16 (KJV)

15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

But she could just say that of course Paul would say that. But here’s the thing, Paul didn’t write that. Acts was written by Luke, who wrote The Gospel of Luke (surprise!). Acts is actually a direct sequel to Luke. If you’re going to say that the Book of Acts is unreliable, then you’re saying the Gospel of Luke is unreliable.

Wolf-Like Sheep: Introduction

Matthew 7:15 (KJV)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

In all my research of the posts for Fig Tree Reborn, I’m always coming across sites, usually other blogs, that teach something other than what the Bible teaches. Often it’s either atheists trying to disprove the Bible or turn people away from it, or Muslims trying to show that Jehovah and Allah are one and the same (they aren’t).

Every time I come upon one of those sites, I always check out their claims in the Bible to make sure not only if it really says that, but also to check the context. That’s taking so much time that I thought that I would just make a separate series where I take a site or blog or article and disprove it’s claims. I finally decided that just now, when I came across a site trying to claim that Paul was a false prophet. Their claims were hilariously out of context, and in at least one instance (that I found), they merely used the NIV translation to backup their claim. So without further ado, let’s begin exposing these wolves in sheep’s clothing.
