Brother bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime
His sister had another one, she paid it for a lime
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank them both up
This is a very popular song. You probably sang along as you read it. Unfortunately, this is the only part most people know. One day, a few years ago, I went to visit my aunt. She was in bed with a stomach ache and in a lot of pain. She’d remembered those lyrics and wanted to try it. If only she remembered the next lines…
She put the lime in the coconut, she called the doctor, woke him up
And said, Doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take
I say, doctor, to relieve this bellyache?
I say, doctor, ain’t there nothin’ I can take
I say, doctor, to relieve this bellyache?
Without the proper context, you can get hurt. My aunt was physically hurt by not listening to the context of a song. You can be spiritually hurt by not listening to the context of the Scriptures.
If you see a random verse, even if it makes sense, it’s always best to read the entire chapter. Or at the very least the verses before and after.
Hey Brian its me your Aunt Martha yeah I remember shaking the lime in the coconut haha that’s funny

Hey Trevor. didn’t mean to call you Brian . anyway this is your Aunt Martha and I remember that lime and coconut thing . it was funny that you remember that and yes we should pursue more scripture than 1 verse I’m very aware of that now haha

Great advice. Oh, and thank you so much for the tune that will run in my head the remainder of the week, no doubt!
